A note from La Vina:

There will be a wine tasting Friday the 29th, from 5:00 - 7:00 at La Vina, located on 12 Plaza Road in Tubac. We have a very eclectic line up of wines so be sure to stop by.

Calago - Albarino- Rias Baixas, Spain. Albarino wines are elegant, crisp, dry and aromatic, with a unique and pleasing flavor. Albarino wines have been nicknamed the Wines of the Sea, based on their derivation from coastal vineyards and on their compatibility with seafood.

Senorio De Sarria - Spanish Rosado. Bright and lively raspberry red color. Fruity aroma with wild fruits. Fresh, soft, delicate and pleasant. Ideal for all types of courses, especially rice, pasta, fresh vegetables and fish.

Curious Beagle - Cabernet - Paso Robles. This wine is all about high extract concentrated blackberry and blueberry flavors, balanced by an excellent total acidity. It delivers a rich fruit filled finish enhanced by subtle vanilla oak extract flavors.

Carol Shelton "Monga Zin" 2004. The Monga Zin is named both for its immense mouthful of flavors and for its southern California region of origin, Cucmonga Valley, home to many of California's oldest Zinfandel vineyards. The flavors in the berries fell in between the raisiny-dessert wine character of the 2000 and more elegant "Asian spice on red fruit" of the 2001, with incredible density and viscosity due to the extremely low crop and dry growing season. The fruit is hugely jammy raspberry with some dusty Asian/Moroccan spices like cumin, coriander and white pepper. It is slowly developing some lovely creamy milk chocolate, as well as a bit of brown sugar in the finish. This wine alone is worth coming in to taste. Wine tasting is this Friday the 15th, from 5:00 - 7:00. La Vina is located at 12 Plaza Road in Tubac.

Mont-Marcal Cava - Exhibits a lovely pearl of a bubble that slowly beads to the top of the glass. The soft, clean scents of freshly baked bread, apple, and pear meld with the faintest hint of cinnamon and sesame to beguile the nose. On the palate light fruit, with traces of sesame and almond, caress the mouth. Enjoy!

Nessa Albarino 2006 - "Green-tinged gold. Wonderfully pure and bright nose features pungent, mineral-laced apple, pear and nectarine accented by crushed stone, jasmine and pungent herbs. Racy, focused orchard and citrus flavors show excellent spine and thrust. Persistent finishing flavors of pungent herbs, minerals and lemon zest. 87 Points"-Steven Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Guelbenzu Azul 2004 - Tempranillo and Merlot blend. Red cherry colour with a high layer. Complex nose with red fruit and species, prune and figs. In the mouth it has a power entrance, bodied and it keeps the strength in the palate. The wood aromas are very well integrated, with a long after tasting. It boasts a perfect balance.

Dehesa La Granja 2002 - 100 % Tempranillo. This wine is supple, with deep, ripeflavors of cherry and raspberry preserves and fully absorbed tannins. Lush, suave and long, with a lingering note of blackberry and a faint hint of vanilla.

Casa de Tubac is situated in Tubac which is located south of Tucson in the high chaparral at 3,400 feet. This elevation allows Tubac to be one of the most comfortable climates in the U.S. Mild winters and summers generally much cooler than Phoenix and Tucson supports large stands of cottonwood, mesquite, and acacia trees which run along the Santa Cruz River.

The Santa Cruz River Valley ranges from Tucson to Mexico and is the home to Arizona's original settlement, Tubac. Tubac has been continuously occupied by Europeans since 1752, when Spanish colonizers established a Presidio. The Tubac Presidio State Park Historic Park features exhibits and the ruins of the original Presidio.

Juan Bautista de Anza used the Tubac Presidio to stage supplies needed to start his expedition to what is now the city of San Francisco, which credits him as the founder. Not bad for a little village of 2000 people.

Tubac today can be compared to Sedona or Taos but on a little smaller scale. Internationally known as Arizona's only true artist colony, Tubac features 100 galleries and studios, and retaurants is located 42 miles south of Tucson Internation Airport. Tubac is home to sculptors, painters, potters, artisans and jewelers.

Tubac is the perfect place to shop, dine and explore. Hike the Anza Trail, visit the Tumacacori Mission, go mountain biking, birding in the cottonwood bosques, golf, and horseback riding. Nearby destinations include Nogales, Patagonia, Kartchner Caverns and the remarkable ghost town, Ruby.
